Summary
Newport Mesa Magazine is a full -color, glossy format magazine published bimonthly
and is distributed to residents and businesses via direct mail and on high -foot traffic
stand locations in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine and North Laguna Beach ,
California. The magazine currently has a circulation of 50,000 subscribers.

That the Board of Directors receives and files this report.
Analysis
2014 will be the District’s 70 th Anniversary. The Board has budged funds to promote
this landmark this year, but nothing specific has been planned. Because Newport
Mesa Magazine is a local publication that has relatively high circulation, staff believes
it would be beneficial to promote the District’s 70 th Anniversary in the magazine.
S taff has reserved a front cover photo for the May/June issue of the magazine that will
include a full page photo feature editorial. Staff believes this would be a good
opportunity to promote District ’s anniversary along with the many programs offered to
r esidents such as the Sewer Lateral Assistance Program, large item collections, door -
to -door household hazardous waste collections for seniors, sharps program,
composting and the District’s future organic recycling program that will include CR&R’s
anaerobic digestive facility. In addition, the District will receive two half page ads in the
magazine. The total cost will be $4,995.

Total cost to have a full front page photo feature editorial along with two half page ads
in Newport Mesa Magazine will be $4,995 . There is $20,000 budgeted in the FY
201 3 -14 Budget for the District’s 70 th Anniversary.

Copies of this report are on file and will be included with the entire agenda packet for
the September 9 , 201 3 Board of Directors Study Session at District Headquarters and
on District ’s website.
