During the report, Director Perry wanted to know what schools did to promote the p rogram. This report illustrates what each school did to promote the program . Staff Recommendation That the Boar d of Directors approves awarding a minimum of $300 to schools that have demonstrated a good faith effort to promoting the District’s Teleph one Book Recycling Program . Analysis Program invitations were sent to 30 schools but only 22 deci ded to participate. However, out of the 22 that participated, 3 schools (Killybrooke, Wilson and Back Bay High) collected less than eight (8) telephone bo oks so they did not qualify for the minimum $300 award . Staff con tacted all 22 schools via e -mail and asked them what they did to help promote the program. Attached is a list illustrating what each school did to promote the program (Attachment A). Stra tegic Plan Element & Goal This item complies the with objective and strategy of Strategic Element 2.0, Solid Waste, which states: Board of Directors February 27 , 201 3 Page 2 of 2 “Objective: Our objective is to manage the collection and recycling of residential trash in the most economical and environme ntally friendly way.” “Strategy : We will do this by looking for ways to improve efficiencies, achieve high customer satisfaction, and considering prudent new recycling methods.” Legal Review Not applicable at this time . Financial Review Twelve schools collected less than 100 telephone books, but demonstrated good faith efforts to promoting the program. The total cost to awarding the twelve schools will be $3,600 . Committee Recommendation On February 19, 2013, the Operations Committee recommends the B oard of Directors approves awarding a minimum of $300 to schools that have demonstrated a good faith effort to promoting the District’s Telephone Book Recycling Program. Public Notice Process Copies of this report are on file and will be included wi th the complete agenda packet for the February 19 , 2013 Operations Committee meeting at District Headquarters and posted on the District’s website.
