The mulch is then distributed locally throughout California and used to enrich the nutrients i n soil. This program is made available to residents three weeks after Christmas. Staff is providing the Operations Committee with a final report on the results of the program. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends the Operations Committee to review an d accept the following report. Analysis In 2012, the Christmas Tree Recycling Program collected 5,028 trees from residents. In comparison to the previous year, which collected 5,436 trees, there has been a 7.5% decrease in the total amount of trees colle cted. Despite the decrease in the amount of trees collected from residents, the findings show a steady increase in the total tonnage of trees collected. In 2012, the total tonnage for Christmas trees collected was 79.14. As such, the findings show a 1.7 % increase in the total tonnage collected.
