Scavenging : In the m onth of January, there were no c all s made to the District HQs to report scavenging activity . There were also no citations issued for the month of January . Below, are several inci dents I observed directly; the majority of the scavenging incidents listed below were not individuals who are trying to make a business from recycling materials. I continue to observe individuals on foot, pushing a stroller or a shopping cart, and going th rough the trash bins. This takes place mainly on the Westside of the city. Trash Container Enforcement : In the month of January , there were four complaints that came into the District HQ to report addresses that leave their trash bins (t/b) in public sight (p/s). I made a site visit to the following addresses: 227 Mesa Dr – Spoke to resident and he advised that he was moving and had a scheduled trash pick -up. All trash was picked up and curb was cleaned up by next day. 644, 649, 661 Darrell St – Spoke to all three residents and gave them a courtesy reminder regarding CMSDs policy about trash bins in public view. Will follow -up. 927 Serra Way – Tagged w/ a 1 st Notice. Removed trash bins from public sight after 1 st Notice. 310 E. 22 ND St – Foun d no t/b in p/s I will co ntinue to monitor the above address es as well as previous complaints to ensure compliance and take any further action if necessary. A summary of the courtesy notice process for the District OEO is provided in the following chart and demonstrates the effectiveness of a “1 st N otice”: January 1 -31 , 2013 1 st Notice 2 nd Notice Courtesy Letter South of Wilson St. 0 0 0 Wilson St. to Adams Ave. 2 0 0 Adams Ave. to Sunflower Ave. 0 0 0 Trash Containers in Alley Pilot Program: For alley pilot #2, we choose to go with another small alley on the eastside that runs down the middle of the 400 Blk of Abbie Way and the 400 Blk of E. 18 th St. The area consist of approximately 20 homes, and they al l are serviced for trash pickup down the al ley. Initially, only six addresses that had their trash bins on the alley were tagged with a courtesy notice. And, only two of the six needed a second courtesy notice. I will be going back to follow up on these two addresses.
