COSTA MESA CA 92627 • CIVIL ENGINEERS PLANNERS SURVEYORS (7141 5413-1192 May 21 1992 Board of Directors Costa Mesa Sanitary District P 0 Box 1200 Costa Mesa CA 92628 RE PROPOSED RATE INCREASE BY DISTRICT ENGINEER & ACTING MANAGER Gentlemen Since 1981 I have requested only three increases in the hourly rates for performing engineering services for the District the last being in June 1990 In reviewing my past letter requesting increases there are some points that I feel are worth restating As has always been the case my rates for work performed for other clients is substantially higher than the rates used for District work due to a variety of reasons Most importantly I feel it s advantageous • for both the Board of Directors and the District Engineer/Acting Manager to have a mutually beneficial relationship While the Board desires the District work be done on a priority basis with a high level of professionalism the Engineer/Acting Manager should in a sense give something back to the District by using the volume of work to offset higher rates Unfortunately at some point in time an increase is necessary to keep pace with the ever increasing cost of living and therefore the following increase is being requested Surveying rates which are proposed on a per project basis are not included since the increases are yearly and tied to union negotiations Proposed Rate Current Rate Average Yearly % increase since 1990 Engineering & Management $59 00/hr $55 00/hr 3 6% Draftsman 47 00/hr 44 00/hr 3 6% Inspector 42 00/hr 39 00/hr 3 6% Retainer 1 100 00/mo 1 025 00/mo 3 6% The effective date of the increase is proposed for the beginning of the next fiscal year occurring on July 1 1992 Work being completed under previously approved projects will remain at the • previous rates a 5) ROBIN B.
