Reso 2006-722RESOLUTION NO. 2006 -722 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE COSTA MESA SANITARY DISTRICT ENDORSING PROPOSITION 1E AND URGING STATEWIDE SUPPORT FOR THE MEASURE ON THE NOVEMBER 7, 2006 GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT WHEREAS, the California State Legislature has passed and the Governor of the State of California has signed the Disaster Preparedness and Flood Prevention Bond Act of 2006; and WHEREAS, this comprehensive flood prevention infrastructure package will appear on the November 7, 2006 ballot as Proposition 1E; and WHEREAS, if approved by the voters a total of $4.1 billion will be available to fund disaster preparedness and flood protection needs; and WHEREAS, this comprehensive plan includes $3 billion for levee repair, $500 million for the flood control subvention program, $300 million for grants toward stormwater flood management projects, $290 million for the state's flood control corridor program, and $90 million for updated flood -plain mapping that will help cities make the most informed land -use decisions; and WHEREAS, Proposition 1E represents the first significant investment in the aforementioned programs in the last thirty years; and WHEREAS, the Flood Control Subvention Program is included in Proposition 1E; and WHEREAS, this funding is essential for the funding and completion of the Santa Ana River Mainstem project, including the Prado Dam project, and WHEREAS, new flood protection funding will lead to safer communities and economies; NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Directors does hereby resolve that the Costa Mesa Sanitary District wholeheartedly endorses Proposition 1E and urges statewide support for the measure on the November 7, 2006 General Election ballot.
