Contract - Discovery Science Center - 2018-07-01 FIRST AMENDMENT TO AGREEMENT BETWEEN COSTA MESA SANITARY
DISTRICT AND DISCOVERY SCIENCE CENTER OF ORANGE COUNTY
This FIRST AMENDMENT to the July 1, 2017 Agreement between the Costa Mesa
Sanitary District,a sanitary district("District"),and Discovery Science Center of Orange County,
a non-profit organization("Consultant"), is made and entered into this 1st day of July 2018.
WITNESSETH:
WHEREAS, on July 1, 2017, the District and Consultant entered into an Agreement for
the Eco 'Challenge education programs for Costa Mesa 6th grade students and teachers
("Agreement"); and
WHEREAS,the Agreement expired on June 30,2018;
WHEREAS, the District and Consultant desire to extend the Agreement pursuant to its
terms for another year from July 1,2018 to June 30,2019;
WHEREAS,Consultant shall perform the services described in Exhibit A attached hereto
and incorporated by this reference and the District shall pay Consultant in accordance with Exhibit
A; and
WHEREAS,the District and Consultant desire that all other terms and conditions of the
Agreement shall remain in full force and effect.
NOW,THEREFORE,the District and Consultant agree as follows:
1. The Agreement shall be extended from July 1,2018 until June 30,2019.
2. Consultant shall perform the services described in Exhibit A and the District shall
pay Consultant in accordance with Exhibit A.
3. Except as provided herein, all other terms and conditions of the Agreement shall
remain in full force and effect.

. EXHIBIT A
Background:
Discovery Science Center of Orange County partnered with the Orange County Waste & Recycling
Department on the development and delivery of a comprehensive education program focused on the
messages of"Reduce, Reuse & Recycle". This program builds on the educational content developed
for our Eco Challenge exhibit,which opened here at DSC-OC in September of 2011. The Costa Mesa
Sanitary District has demonstrated a strong commitment to this program beginning in the 2013
calendar year for a total of 2,484 students.
Proposed Scope of Work
DSC proposes to reach 433 6th grade student in the Costa Masa Sanitary District service area. The Eco
Challenge Education Program includes:
• Interactive in-class instruction using curriculum developed for the Eco Challenge education
program and featuring an interactive student keypad response system
• A student booklet summarizing key concepts to accompany the in-class Workshop
• Incentive for visiting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center
• Take-home items and a home survey for each student
• Classroom resources used to accompany the in-class Workshop
• A field trip to DSC for the students receiving the in-class Workshop including a$200 bus stipend
DSC provides all aspects of Education Program delivery including:
• Booking of in-class Workshops and accompanying field trips
• Providing teachers for the in-class Workshops and assigning staff to lead field trips while at DSC
• Procuring, storing and managing delivery of classroom supplies and equipment, take-home
items and educational booklets needed to complete the Workshop
• Collecting, analyzing and reporting on home surveys
Term
DSC proposes to continue providing the Eco Challenge education program during the 2018-19 school year.

Cost and Fee Schedule
Costs for program delivery will be on a per student basis at a rate of$24.62 each. In addition, DSC will
bill Costa Mesa Sanitary District separately for $22 per classroom visited (for delivery of in-class
Workshops)and$200 per bus stipend(each stipend to cover transportation costs for 45 students).The
total contract amount will not exceed $13,000.
An initial retainer payment of$3,780.09 to DSC is requested at the beginning of the school year. This
initial payment will fund the capital costs of the program. Invoices will then be sent to the District each
month detailing students taught in that month. Once the retainer has been fully utilized, payments for
each month's invoice will be due upon receipt.

The innovative approach of the Eco Challenge Education program has been a perfect fit with the Costa
