Minutes of the Board of Directors Special Meeting Held December 2, 1999
The Board of Directors of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District attended a meeting of the
Costa Mesa Sanitary District Recycling Committee at 9:00 a.m. in conference room
1A at the Civic Center, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.
Directors Present: Dan Worthington, Greg Woodside
Staff Present: Rob Hamers, Joan Revak, Dawn Schmeisser
Telephone Book Recycling Program with Schools
Director Worthington requested an update on the 1999 School Telephone Book
Recycling Program. Ms. Revak reported as of December 1, 1999, 7,710 books
(15.42 tons) have been collected at the school sites. Kline School (private) has
collected the greatest number of pounds per student in the elementary school
category; TeWinkle School is winning at the middle school level and Estancia High
School is ahead of Costa Mesa. Ms. Revak further informed the Committee that last
. year, at this point in the program, 6286 books (12.57 tons) had been collected.
Ms. Revak also advised the Committee that an advertisement appeared in the Daily
Pilot December 2, 1999 and will run again on Thursday, December 9, 1999. An ad
will run in the Costa Mesa Breeze on December 9, 1999
Beverage Container Grant
Ms. Revak reported seven concrete containers were delivered on November 23,
1999 to three sites: Costa Mesa High School, Tewinkle Park and Goathill Junction
(Fairview Park). The Costa Mesa High School Boys Soccer Team will collect the
containers from the high school and Tewinkle Park, and the Model Engineer
Volunteer Group will collect the containers at Goathill Junction.
Reaching 50% by 2000 - Press Release Campaign
Ms. Revak presented a draft of an advertisement to be placed in the Daily Pilot and
Costa Mesa Breeze to publicize the District's achievement of the state - mandated
goal of reaching "50% by 2000 ". The draft will be presented to the Board of Directors
• at the December 8, 1999 regular Board meeting for approval
