Minutes - Recycling - 1998-05-13a • COSTA MESA SANITARY DISTRICT Minutes of the Board of Directors Study Session Held May 7, 1998 and Adjourned to May 13, 1998 Minutes of Recycling Committee Meeting Held May 13, 1998 The Board of Directors of the - Costa Mesa Sanitary District met in adjourned study session on May 13, 1998, 9:00 a.m. in conference room 1 -A at the Civic Center, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. Directors Present: Jim Ferryman, Art Perry, Arlene Schafer, Nate Reade, Dan Worthington Staff Present: Rob Hamers, Lois Thompson, Joan Revak, Dawn Schmeisser Others Present: Laura Fabrego, City Volunteer The Study Session of May 7, 1998 adjourned to 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 1998. The Board continued their discussion on the topic of Residential Bin Service and Household Hazardous Waste pickup. Staff is continuing to investigate how to establish a Household Hazardous Waste curbside pickup program. • The Study Session adjourned at 9:20 a.m. The Board of Directors of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District attended a meeting of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District Recycling Committee. Telephone Directories Program - June 1998 Collection Ms. Thompson reported the 1998 Phone Book program will begin June 3 and run through July 24. A list of bin locations for the program was provided. Nine local grocery stores were contacted with five agreeing to placement of bins at their locations. Fair Drive ams Avenue COSTA MESA SANITARY DISTRICT Page 3 Minutes of the Board of Directors Study Session Held May 7, 1998 and Adjourned to May 13, 1998 • Minutes of Recycling Committee Meeting Held May 13, 1998 Telephone Directories Program - November 1998 Collection with Public/Private Schools The subject of the sizes of the schools participating in the program and costs involved was brought to the attention of the Committee by Director Ferryman who suggested the size of school could determine how much they would receive from the program. Director Worthington suggested using other collection sites could offset costs associated with the school program. Possible other bin locations were discussed such as parking structures of local'high -rise office buildings. Ms. Thompson reported, with an. estimated thirty schools participating in the program, Costa Mesa Disposal would have to rent extra bins for the school program, or for the smaller schools provide Hauler 100's instead of bins. Director Worthington suggested using "clip art" of a child pulling a red wagon, collecting telephone directories as a means of promoting the program. P � g year's g Sharps Program Ms. Thompson reported that on April 25, 1998, Steven's Pharmacy presented a Diabetes Education Day. There was a .large turnout and Ms. Thompson spoke with several of the Sharps Program participants who indicated they were pleased with the.program The Stericycle one -year agreement will be brought before the Board at the May 14, 1998 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m. No.action was taken by the Board of Directors of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District. President
