Minutes - Board - 1998-01-06• COSTA MESA SANITARY DISTRICT Minutes of the Board of Directors Special Meeting Held January 6, 1998 The Board of Directors of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District attended a meeting of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District Recycling Committee at 9:00 a.m. in conference room 1 -A at the Civic Center, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. Directors Present: Jim Ferryman, Dan Worthington, Staff Present: Rob Hamers, Lois Thompson, Joan Revak, Reba Coulter Guests Present: Eric Dreizen, City Volunteer Assistant Manager, Ms. Lois Thompson, reported that the Sharps Program is in operation. Containers, posters, and brochures were distributed to the pharmacies on December 24, 1997. A press release in the Daily Pilot announced the program on December 26, 1997. Staff is obtaining a mailing list of all medical offices in Costa Mesa and will send program information for physicians to pass onto their patients. Ms. Thompson also presented a video from Media One which featured an interview with Charles Bonner of Steven's Pharmacy promoting the Sharps Program. Ms. Thompson gave an update on the artwork for Costa Mesa Disposal trucks. The graphic artists for the City of.Costa Mesa produced a draft of artwork for the Board's review. Costa Mesa Disposal will pay for the production of the artwork into signs for their ten trucks. A request for. Board approval to purchase 100 lapel pins at a cost of $242.44 was made. The lapel pins would identify Directors and Staff at meetings and events. On October 9, 1997 the Board approved a total budget of $1,000 for small promotional items. To date, $640.57 has been expended, with a balance remaining of $359.43. Staff recommended purchasing the lapel pins for the low bidder, Jonathan Grey. Publisher participation in the telephone book recycling program was discussed, and Director Worthington suggested the District become pro- active in suggesting legislation to create a return deposit on every kind of phone book distributed within the State of California. It was recommended the District notify our two legislative representatives of our telephone book recycling needs and ideas for their support. The Committee recommends that the District develop a strategy for future telephone book recycling efforts. The meeting adjourned at 10 :00 a.m. No action was taken by the Board of Directors of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District.
