Minutes of the Board of Directors Special Meeting Held July 9, 1997

The Board of Directors of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District attended a meeting of the
Costa Mesa Sanitary District Recycling Committee at 9:00 a.m. in conference room 1 -A at
the Civic Center, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.
Directors Present: Arlene Schafer, Dan Worthington
Staff Present: Rob Flamers, Lois Thompson, Joan Revak, Dawn Guastella,
Reba Coulter
The Board,discussed private school participation in the Telephone Directory Recycling
Program. Ms. Thompson reported that a request to participate in the District program
was received from St. John The Baptist School. The subject will be discussed at the
regular Board meeting on July 10, 1997, with the Committee proposing a letter be sent 'to
the private schools in Costa Mesa informing them the District is considering including
private schools in next year's program.
A request was received from Ed Fawcett of the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce for
2,500 copies of the "Moving In - Moving Out" brochures for the AAA. Ms. Thompson
reported that the flyers are printed by the County and she was unsure of the cost.
The Committee discussed medical waste disposal and recycling. Ms. Thompson reported
that the City of Rancho Cucamonga had successfully implemented a program to assist
citizens with a free disposal program for syringes. The program will be discussed at the
regular Board Meeting, with the Committee proposing to direct Staff to continue to
research program costs and community partnerships.
The Committee will be working on recycling artwork for the trash trucks.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
No action was taken by the Board of Directors of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District.
