Subject: Grant of Easement to Costa Mesa Sanitary District for a Standby Diesel
Generator at Canyon Lift Station – Project #196-B
Summary
The goal of Project #196 is to provide backup power and backup pumping capability at six
critical lift stations. The Irvine and Canyon pumping stations will have standby diesel
generators and the Elden, Victoria, Mendoza and 23 rd pumping stations will have backup
pumping units. An easement for the generator and conduit is needed from two private
property owners at the Canyon lift station, and enclosed for Board consideration is the
proposed agreement with these two property owners.
Staff Recommendation
The Board of Directors approves and executes the easement agreement.
Analysis
District staff is challenged with the new reality that Southern California Edison power is not
as reliable as in years past. This project will provide a standby diesel generator at the
Canyon lift station until such time as the station is abandoned as part of the west side
abandonment project. At that time, the generator will be relocated to another pumping
station.
