06 - Large Item Collection Program - Update Protecting our community's health and the environment by providing solid waste and sewer collection s ervices. www.cmsdca.gov Costa Mesa Sanitary District ….an Independent Special District Memorandum T o: Operations Committee Via : Scott Carroll , General Manager From: Javier Ochiqui, Management Analyst Date: February 19 , 2013 Subject : Large Item Collection Program – Update Summary The Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD) offers its customers a convenient curbside collection of large or bulky items at their home. CMSD residents are eligible for three (3) complimentary pick -ups per year . There is a limit of 10 items per call or collections can be combined for a total of 30 items per calendar year. Staff is providing the Operations Committee with a program update. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends the Operations Committee to r eview and accept the following report. Analysis In 2012, the Large Item Collection Program served over 1,66 0 accounts and collected over 10,000 large items from CMSD residents. In comparison to 2011 , which served approximately 1,0 50 accounts and collect ed 3,443 items, there has been a significant increase in the usage of this program. Since 2009, there has been an increase of 677 accounts that have utilized this program. In 2013, there has been a total of 184 accounts served , totaling 208 pick -ups an d 867 items. If we continue at this rate, we will serve over 2,200 accounts in 2013 which would be an increase of 25% from 2012.
