Mr. Fauth reported local cities were contacted by staff to determine if they encounter
problems with graffiti on their standardized containers and how they deal with removal
of such. It was learned that approximately 40 percent of the cities /districts polled do not
have a graffiti problem. The solution in some cases is to paint over the graffiti; other
entities replace the cans.
The container manufacturer, Roto Industries, suggested a flat green enamel paint
manufactured by Sherwin Williams, costing $7.35 per can. Mr. Hamers suggested
obtaining a can for testing on the containers.
The Committee will recommend the Board direct staff to obtain the spray paint for
testing purposes
TELEPHONE BOOK RECYCLING PROGRAM
• Ms. Revak reported the 2001 School Telephone Book Recycling Program is underway
and will run to December 14, 2001. Flyers and posters were delivered to the participating
schools, Costa Mesa Fire Stations and Orange Coast College Recycling Center. A CD
and VHS tape of the District's "Working For You" educational tool was also provided to
each of the schools to enlighten students and faculty on the many services provided by
the District. Ms. Revak presented a list of participating schools showing their designated
use of award.
Ms. Revak reported on investigating a suggestion of Director Worthington to obtain a
videotape depicting the recycling of telephone books into new products as an additional
educational tool for the schools. Ms. Revak learned such a tape, produced by Daishowa,
does exist and PacBell is obtaining the video for use by the District.
