Minutes - Recycling - 2001-09-11SANggRP I N y< 0� A U H I \ • yCORPORA'�'p`9\ COSTA MESA SANITARY DISTRICT MINUTES OF RECYCLING COMMITTEE MEETING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 The Costa Mesa Sanitary District Recycling Committee met at 9:30 a.m. in conference room 5A at the Civic Center, 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. Directors Present: Arlene Schafer, Art Perry Staff Present: Rob Hamers, Tom Fauth, Joan Revak STANDARDIZED CONTAINER PROGRAM PROGRESS REPORT • Mr. Fauth provided a matrix on the status of container orders to Roto Industries and reported the container distribution process is working well. As of August 31, 2001, containers have been ordered and invoiced as follows: 3,000 90 gallon $167,377.50 5,880 60 gallon $283,812.90 250 35 gallon $ 10,682.81 6,150 Total $461,873.21 Press Releases have been issued to the newspapers noting the streets that will be serviced with the new containers during the month of September. LARGE ITEM COLLECTION PROGRAM Ms. Revak reported the 2001 Large Item Collection Program ran from June 18 to August 24, and the program, as always, is very well received by the residents. A total of 529 tons were collected and taken to the landfill at a cost of $11,634.00. The District received a credit for 110.14 tons of white goods in the amount of $2,519.66, resulting in a total program cost of $9,114.34. The 2001 program showed a decrease of 19.06 percent in • white goods tonnage over last year's program. • • • +�S,,SANIT�py �n �RPORAtiD\ Costa Mesa Sanitary District Minutes of Recycling Committee Meeting September 11, 2001 Page 2 MINI TELEPHONE BOOK RECYCLING PROGRAM Ms. Revak reported on the final totals from the Mini Telephone Hook Recycling Program, which ran from July 16 through August 27, 2001, with collection bins placed in front of City Hall and at the Orange Coast College (OCC) Recycling Center. A total of 4,500(9.00 tons) yellow page directories were collected which compares with 2,870 books (5.72 tons) collected in last year's program. The bulk of the collected directories were deposited at the OCC Recycling Center. UPDATE ON OTHER MATERIALS — CRT's, DIAPERS AND .JAPANESE HOME GREASE PREVENTION PRODUCTS Mr. Harriers reported Staff is continuing to determine a solution for the disposal of CRT's. Ms. Revak will be attending a Household Hazardous Waste Information Meeting on September 19, and one of the agenda items is CRT disposal. Staff is also working on the translation of information on the Japanese home grease prevention products. The meeting was adjourned at 9:50 a.m. secretary
